What’s GLINTCAP? It’s the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry competition, which is like the Oscars of the cider world: the most prestigious, and largest, cider competition in the United States.

And at the 2021 event, which took place at the end of July in Grand Rapids, MI, City Orchard picked up *14* medals!

😍 First things first, Lavender Royale is a love letter to our home state! We use lavender grown in Texas Hill Country and honey from nearby, too. If spring is your favorite season in Texas, you’re really going to like Lavender Royale.

πŸ’‘ Lavender Royale is part of our Cider Fresca series: it’s one of the many fruits of our labors to explore out-of-the-box flavor pairings that complement our apples – never overwhelm them!

πŸ’ On that note, let’s talk about making a cider with an ingredient like lavender. Spoiler . . . it’s HARD! The challenge comes from adding enough lavender to make it sing without ending up with something too floral or, worst case, soapy. 🧼 🀒

🧐 So how’d we do it? How did we get Lavender Royale just right? We started with a dry culinary cider, experimented til we had the lavender dialed in to perfection, then backsweetened with that good-as-gold Texas honey. And that honey really helps both flavor profiles shine and strikes the perfect balance. βš–οΈ
