Kick off the New Year with Dry Cider January
We hope your holidays were like a great cider…refreshing and just as sweet as you like! 🥂🍾
Meanwhile, it’s January, and we’re entering that stretch of winter without holidays where we all get fresh, healthy habits and . . . well, ok, 2020 isn’t that far behind us, and giving up great cider actually isn’t on our resolutions list!
But we don’t feel an ounce of guilt over that, and here’s why!
Introducing #DryCiderJanuary
1. Dry ciders have less sugar than so many other options! Most of our dry ciders range from 1 to 3g of sugar per 12oz serving. Seriously! That’s it.
2. It’s just as versatile as any sparkling wine with less alcohol! All the complexity, those delightful little bubbles…just less booze. If you’re trying to drink less, cider’s a good look, especially in January! If you’re feeling extra, you could even do a cider spritzer to keep things even lighter!
3. It’s #basicallysalad. Alright, we admit that one’s a bit of a stretch…but our real cider comes from real apples, never concentrate, so feel free to drink clean all month long!
New menu, who dis?

Yes way! We made a rosé!
Fresh out of the tanks and into sleek 12 oz cans, our elegant North Rosé makes its debut today at our Taproom!
As you InCiders know, fresh juice has been rolling into our Taproom from our New York orchard for the past three weeks! We immediately threw the first batch into a tank to ferment with the skins of red wine grapes, fresh out of the press from our friends at Decant Urban Winery.
North Rosé is named after the town where our apples grow in Upstate New York. Bright and fruit-forward, this rosé dry cider is the perfect companion for a patio happy hour, BBQ, or poolside hang. Enjoy it in a glass or right out of the can.
Either way, *pinkies up*!
Cider Maker Notes: North Rosé is a fun cider to make as it takes an all hands on deck approach for us and for our collaborators.
We started with a culinary and heirloom cider base that includes Honeycrisp, Crispin, Ida Red, Northern Spy, and Golden Delicious – something that is a fantastic cider on its own. Our friend John Rivenbergh of Kerrville Hills Winery was kind enough to drop off some deep red Teroldego grape skins from the Pepperjack vineyard in the Texas High Plains. We added these Italian varietal grape skins to the cider and let them steep for several weeks.
The result is a dry cider with a hint of rosé color and a subtle reminder of grapes.
Harvest 2020 is here and in full-swing!
Harvest season at our New York orchard kicked-off two weeks ago, and we couldn’t be more excited! Apples are handed picked into bins and sent for pressing. This juice then gets put into giant totes stored in cardboard crates (think a GIANT juice box) that then get trucked to us all within days of harvest. What makes our cider “real”? *Real* juice from *real* apples. Harvest season is a great time to find out if your favorite cider is made with real juice or concentrate 😉
Our first delivery of fresh juice just rolled in a few days ago. We are happy to report that we have tanks FULL of Rhode Island Greening, which means Mr. and Mrs. Green
will be returning in cans by Thanksgiving.
For the first week in the tanks, this almost-cider is fizzy, fruity, and still fermenting. A harvest time tradition, Young Cider, is the newest cider on our menu at the City Orchard Taproom.
Young cider is apple juice that is still fermenting – we’re so excited to make our first batch of cider this year that we can’t wait, and we are starting to drink it now! This is our first batch of what will soon be our Mr. and Mrs. Green ciders.
Like the Viennese tradition of Stürm wine (stormy wine) – young cider is still working its way to a grown-up cider. It’s still sweet, very appley, and light on alcohol. It is fizzy, and you can see and taste nature doing its job in the glass. Normally you can only get this next to the apple orchards, but we, being City Orchard, are bringing this to you in Central Houston.
Join us every weekend starting 10/31 for Harvest Festival, enjoy young cider, fresh apple cider, and Apple Cider Donuts from our partner Hugs and Donuts!
Say hola to our newest series, Cider Nuevo!
Cider Nuevo is here! We’re breaking all the rules of cider making. We’re not sorry.
Introducing the innovative Cider Nuevo series, infused with post-wine-pressing grape skins (hello, pét-nat fans!) and bottle conditioned. Try our first two releases in the Taproom now for a taste of something truly fresh, sometimes co- fermented, and always uniquely delicious.
We are releasing the first two bottles from this brand-spakin’ new series, High
Summer and June Drop, today at our Taproom. Two additional bottles, Petal Fall and Mellow Gold, will be available
later this month. If you don’t already, sign up for our InCiders Email first!
for those deets
High Summer is a co-fermented blend of Ida Red apple juice and Roussanne grape skins from the Texas High Plains. Bottle-conditioning yields subtle hints of bready yeast and white pepper. Bone-dry with a beautiful mix of tropical fruit and tart apple, this is the summer love child of a Saison and an Albariño.
For June Drop we took Petite Sirah grape skins steeped in Ida Red apple juice to produce a bold and fruit-forward dry cider with a gorgeous ruby color. Bottle- conditioned and reminiscent of a lambic, exploding with bright jammy berries and a soft finish.
New ciders to die for…new merch to dye for! To celebrate Cider Nuevo, we’ve got a very limited run of hand-dyed t-shirts and tanks available for purchase at the Taproom.
